Before you start

Two-factor authentication (2FA) asks for a 6-digit code from your phone in addition to your password. Even someone who knows your password can't get in.

Step 1 of 5

Install an authenticator app

Install an authenticator app from your phone's app store. An app is safer than SMS codes.

Step 2 of 5

Open your account’s security settings

On the site where you want 2FA, go to Settings → Security → Two-factor authentication and choose Authenticator app.

Step 3 of 5

Scan the QR code

A QR code appears on screen. Tap + in your authenticator app and scan it. The app will show a 6-digit code that changes every 30 seconds.

Step 4 of 5

Enter the code to verify

Type the current code from the app and press Verify.

If the code is about to expire, wait for the next one.

Step 5 of 5

Store your backup codes safely

The site will give you one-time backup codes. If you lose your phone, you'll use them to log in.

If you lose both the backup codes and your phone, you may be locked out. Print them or store them in your password manager.

Congrats, you’re all done! 🎉

Great! Your account is much safer now. Repeat these steps for your email, social media and banking accounts.
