Before you start

Most passwords get compromised because they are short and predictable. In this guide you'll create a password that is both secure and easy to remember.

Step 1 of 5

Pick 4 unrelated words

Choose four words that have nothing to do with each other. For example:

coffee · compass · cloud · rabbit

Opening a dictionary at random pages makes the words much harder to guess.

Step 2 of 5

Join the words and add a small twist

Join them with dashes or dots, capitalize one word and add a digit:

Coffee-compass-7-cloud-rabbit

This password is both long (29 characters) and memorable.

Step 3 of 5

Avoid personal information

Your password should not contain:

  • Birthdays, names, team names
  • Common strings like 123456, qwerty, password
  • A password you use on another site

Reusing a password means a single breach puts all your accounts at risk.

Step 4 of 5

Use a password manager

Remembering a different password for every site is hard. A tool like Bitwarden, 1Password or your browser's password manager stores them encrypted.

Use the method from steps 1 and 2 for the manager's master password.

Step 5 of 5

Change and save your password

Go to your account's Settings → Security → Change password, enter the new password and save it in your password manager.

Congrats, you’re all done! 🎉

You now have a strong password. As a next step we recommend turning on two-factor authentication for your accounts.
